Disclaimer: This is not a final, min-maxed build guide. Instead, this is a gameplay showcase & early progression roadmap based on hands-on time at Blizzard HQ. Use this to understand the Warlock’s unique summoning mechanics and plan your own leveling strategy before the class drops. If you want to accelerate your endgame gearing, you can buy Diablo 4 Gold from trusted sellers. Expected Release: ~28th of this month.
Core Philosophy: Sacrifice Lesser Demons to Empower Greater Demons
The Warlock summoner is active, not passive. Unlike Diablo 3’s Witch Doctor or D4’s Necromancer, you constantly cycle between:
· Spawning lesser demons (fodder)
· Letting them die (or exploding them)
· Using their deaths to fuel greater demon skills for free
You have two resources:
· Wrath (generic mana, regenerates)
· Dominance (slow, powerful resource, similar to D3’s Discipline)
The loop: Spend Wrath on lesser demons → they die → reduce Dominance cost of greater demons → cast powerful greater demon for free after 50 lesser deaths.
Recommended Early Defensive Aspects (Generic, Get ASAP)
Before equipping any summoning-specific aspects, prioritize survivability. These are generic and work for any class – farm them from early Nightmare Dungeons or world content:
| Aspect | Effect | Why for Summoner |
| Disobedience | Gain armor when dealing damage | You’ll be spamming skills constantly |
| Juggernaut | Flat damage reduction | Minions body-block, but you’re still vulnerable |
| Aspect of Might | Damage reduction after using Basic skill | Your Basic (Command Fallen) is used often |
Also look for these generic resource helpers (no Ring of Starless Skies yet):
· Moonrise – boosts attack speed & resource gen
· Adaptability – reduces resource costs temporarily
· Cursed Touch – applies Vulnerable (key for early DPS)
· Vulnerability is critical early game. Without endgame cooldown reduction, Cursed Touch is your best friend.
Skill Breakdown (As Shown in Gameplay)
1. Basic Skill: Command Fallen
· Summons a Fallen Lunatic that walks toward enemies and explodes.
· Recommended Modifier: Meat Shield
1. Converts to Hellfire skill.
2. Passively summons 1 Fallen every 1 second.
3. Automatically targets nearby enemies.
4. Free damage. Put 1 point here + 1 point in modifier.
5. Works great with Lucky Hit procs (e.g., Vulnerable on hit).
2. Core Skill: Bombardment
· Smashes 4 demons into the ground for AoE damage.
· Modifiers can:
1. Summon more demons per cast
2. Leave behind mutated demons
3. Convert to Fire skill (rain demons randomly around you)
3. Defensive / Utility: Wall of Agony
· Summons 5 Frenzy demons into a line that block enemies.
· Acts like D3’s Wall of Zombies – can block projectiles/boss attacks.
· Modifiers:
1. Circle variant – pulls enemies inward (great for grouping)
2. Knockback variant – pushes enemies away (defensive)
· All demons from this count as lesser – they exist to die.
4. Greater Demon Skill: Rampage
· Summons a giant demon with spiked ball-fists that slams the ground.
· High DPS early game.
· Modifiers:
1. Second smash forward
2. Convert to Fire (leap attack)
3. Larger titan variant (Abyssal Titan)
5. Summon Agrion (Persistent Greater Demon)
· This is your always-up greater demon.
· Agrion summons Vile Childs (lesser demons) passively.
· Key Mechanic: After 50 lesser demons die, your next greater demon skill costs 0 resource.
· Also provides Unstoppable – if you’d be CC’d, sacrifice a lesser demon instead.
6. Profane Sentinel (Highly Recommended for Summoner)
· Summons a demon eye that shoots a laser beam.
· Best DPS summon in the early build.
· Greater demon tag – benefits from the 50-death free cast.
· Convert damage type as needed.
7. Succubus Summon (Conditional, Strong but Tedious)
· Requires: Create a circle → get 12 kills inside → summons Succubi.
· Succubi deal 90% damage and inflict a thorns-like debuff (enemies take damage when attacking).
· Strong early, but long cooldown and setup. Skip if you want a simpler rotation.
Early Leveling Rotation (Levels 1–40)
1. Pre-fight: Let Meat Shield passively spawn 1–2 Fallen.
2. Engage: Command Fallen (Basic) to explode them.
3. Group enemies with Wall of Agony (circle pull modifier).
4. Spam Bombardment to generate lesser demon deaths.
5. At 50 deaths → cast Rampage or Profane Sentinel for free.
6. Keep Agrion active – he generates more lesser demons automatically.
7. You will be pressing many buttons. This is not a lazy summoner. Embrace the chaos.
Damage Types & Conversion
Warlock deals:
· Physical (default for many summons)
· Fire (fast, aggressive, meta-leaning)
· Shadow (dot / control)
· For summoner leveling:
· Stick with Physical early (gearing is simpler).
· Switch to Fire if you find +fire damage aspects – the leap conversion on Rampage is very strong.
Comparison: Summoner vs. Fire Warlock (Early Game)
| Aspect | Summoner (this build) | Fire Warlock |
| Playstyle | Active, minion cycling | Fast, leap + transformation |
| Clear speed | Good vs. packs | Faster overall |
| Boss DPS | Moderate (relies on 50-death loop) | High (direct damage) |
| Survivability | Higher (meat shield + body blocks) | Lower but mobile |
| Fun factor | High if you like army management | Very high (explosive) |
Verdict: Play Summoner if you enjoy the fantasy of overwhelming enemies with bodies. Play Fire if you want to speed-clear. Both are viable for Normal difficulty leveling.
Final Tips from Gameplay
1. Don’t over-invest in lesser demon damage. They are fodder. Scale greater demons.
2. Use any defensive aspect you find – early Warlock is squishy.
3. Vulnerable application is king. Without it, your DPS will feel bad.
4. Your basic skill (Command Fallen) is not just for resource gen – it’s a main source of lesser deaths. Use it constantly.
5. The class has many new keywords (Eviscerate, Vile Child, Frenzy Demon, etc.). Read modifiers carefully.
